Diwali arrived, filling the mansion with light and color.

Aditi found herself draping a saree in front of the mirror when Meera burst in. "Papa says you have to come to the garden!"

She stepped outside to see the lawn lit with lanterns. Aditya stood there, wearing a kurta, holding a sparkler. His smile was boyish, almost shy.

"You should laugh more," he told her as they lit sparklers with Meera. "It makes this place feel like home."

For a heartbeat, she forgot her vow to never fall.
