Unspoken Sparks - Chapter 4

Chapter 4: Shadows from the Past

The Udaipur deal was signed the next morning—seamless and swift, thanks to Aditya’s precision and Aditi’s diligence. The royal family was impressed, and the media buzzed with praise.

But neither Aditya nor Aditi paid attention to the headlines.

Something had shifted between them.

Not in words.
Not in action.
But in the unspoken silence—the kind that echoes louder than anything said aloud.

Back in Mumbai – Headquarters

Aditi returned to her routine like nothing had changed. Crisp shirts. Quiet lunch breaks. Sharp emails. But inside her, something was… stirring.

And Aditya?

He was more composed than ever, yet his eyes lingered just a second longer when she entered. He trusted her more. Spoke to her more. And for the first time, smiled more.

But the world around them didn’t stay still for long.

The Twist Begins – Boardroom

At the quarterly board meeting, an unexpected name appeared on the agenda.

Rhea Malhotra.

Aditi, standing beside Aditya as he reviewed notes, noticed the flicker of discomfort in his usually unreadable face.

“Who is she?” she asked, sensing the tension.

Aditya didn’t look up. “Old associate.”

But Aditi knew this wasn’t just business.

Later – Company Lounge

Whispers spread like wildfire.

“Rhea’s back?”
“She used to be close to Mr. Raychand, right?”
“More than close... some say they were engaged.”

Aditi heard it all, but said nothing. She didn’t believe in gossip. But her heart… didn’t stay unaffected.

That Evening – Aditya’s Office

Rhea walked in like she still owned the room. Tall, poised, dressed in designer chic, and with a smile that had once melted Aditya’s defenses.

She didn’t even knock.

“Well, look who’s still as intense as ever,” she smirked, taking a seat uninvited.

Aditya didn’t flinch. “Why are you here, Rhea?”

“Daddy’s investing again. And I thought I’d bring some charm back to this dull building.”

Then her eyes wandered to the side, where Aditi stood with a folder.

“And who’s she?” Rhea asked sharply, eyes scanning Aditi from head to toe.

“My personal assistant,” Aditya said curtly.

Rhea smirked again. “Cute. Very quiet. Like a well-trained secretary.”

Aditi looked up. Calm. Unmoved. Her eyes locked with Rhea’s. No fear. No jealousy. Just a quiet strength that made Rhea blink first.

“I’ll send the updated MOU to your office,” Aditi said calmly to Aditya, then turned to leave.

But Aditya’s voice stopped her. “Wait.”

He looked at Rhea, his tone final. “This meeting is over.”

Rhea stood, slightly shaken by the edge in his voice. “You’ve changed, Adi.”

“No,” he said, eyes now on Aditi. “I’ve just started seeing people clearly.”

Parking Lot – That Night

Aditi walked out late, lost in thought. As she reached her scooter, she heard footsteps behind her.

It was Aditya.

“You didn’t like her,” he said, standing beside her.

“I didn’t dislike her,” she replied. “But I could see through her.”

He gave a faint smile. “You always do.”

A moment passed. The city buzzed below them. The silence between them thickened again.

“I’m not who I was five years ago,” he said suddenly.

She turned to him. “I believe that. But who were you then?”

“A man who trusted the wrong people. Who thought love was loyalty... until loyalty was sold for profit.”

Aditi’s voice was soft. “You don’t need to explain anything, sir.”

“But I want to,” he said, taking a step closer. “Because for the first time in years, I feel like someone’s standing with me, not beneath me.”

Their eyes met.

There was no touch. No confession.

But something had broken through that night.

A crack in his armor.

And a question in her heart she wasn’t ready to name.
