The Story I Never Meant to Write - Chapter 5
Chapter 5: The Face Behind the Name
The silence between Aditya and Aditi had changed.
It wasn’t cold anymore.
It had become curious.
They still followed the rules of the contract… but the invisible walls were starting to show tiny cracks.
The Confrontation
That night, Aditya stood at the doorway of their bedroom, watching Aditi type again.
He finally asked, “Who is KVS?”
Aditi froze. Her fingers stopped moving.
“What?” she asked, pretending not to understand.
“KVS. The author. The new blog post is everywhere. Rumors say it’s someone from a rich family. I saw your laptop last week — you were writing The Contract Wife under that name.”
Aditi looked away.
He stepped closer. “It’s you, isn’t it?”
A long pause.
Then softly, she said, “Yes.”
Aditya blinked. “You’ve been living a double life… all this time?”
“I didn’t want fame. I just wanted freedom,” Aditi replied. “My family has never taken writing seriously. They think it’s just a hobby. But KVS… gave me a voice I never had as Aditi Mehra.”
Aditya sat down, genuinely surprised. “You’re… impressive.”
It was the first time he had complimented her.
Aditi gave a small smile. “Don’t say that. You might break another rule from the contract.”
They both laughed — just a little.
It was the first time they shared a moment that felt real.
Riya’s Storm
Meanwhile, Riya wasn’t sitting quiet.
She noticed the change in Aditya — the way he didn’t talk about divorce anymore, the way his anger had reduced, the way he mentioned Aditi’s name without irritation.
She visited him again.
“This wasn’t the plan, Aditya,” she said, her voice cold.
Aditya stayed silent.
“She’s changing you,” Riya added. “And you’re letting her.”
“It’s not about her,” he replied. “It’s about… peace.”
Riya stepped back, shocked. “Are you falling for her?”
“No,” Aditya said quickly. “But I’m not who I was before.”
That was enough to light fire in Riya’s eyes.
“I won’t let her win,” she whispered, and left.
The Viral Story
Aditi’s story, “The Contract Wife”, suddenly exploded online.
Readers were obsessed. The plot felt real, the emotions too raw. Everyone wanted to know who the mysterious KVS was.
Some bloggers even guessed her identity.
Karan called her urgently, “Aditi, we can’t hide this for long. You might have to come out publicly.”
Aditi was torn.
She had never wanted fame. Just respect.
Now, the world was ready to give it… but it would also expose her.
That evening, while she stared blankly at the mirror, Aditya came in.
He didn’t say anything. Just placed a coffee cup beside her and sat down.
She looked at him. “What happens if people find out? What will our families say?”
He paused. “Maybe… it’s time they knew who you are.”
Jealousy
Aditya hadn’t realized it yet — but something had begun growing inside him.
He noticed how Aditi spoke with Karan — openly, laughing, relaxed.
He didn’t like the way Karan looked at her.
One evening, he casually asked, “You and Karan ever dated?”
Aditi raised an eyebrow. “No. He’s like family.”
Aditya nodded quickly, pretending it didn’t matter.
But deep down, it did.
And that… scared him.
The Beginning of the End… or the Start of Something New?
That night, while reading her book online, Aditya reached a chapter where the female character looks at her husband and realizes:
“Sometimes, the person you were forced to live with… becomes the only person you can’t live without.”
He stared at the screen for a long time.
And for the first time, he wondered…
Was this just a contract marriage anymore?
Or was something real beginning to grow between them?
