The Story I Never Meant to Write - Chapter 2

Chapter 2: The Wedding Without a Heart

The day arrived — the wedding day.

The media called it the "Merger of the Century."
Two of the country’s most powerful business empires were coming together. The event was grand, full of sparkle, guests, luxury, and cameras — but without love.

Aditya stood at the altar in a designer sherwani, his expression cold and distant. His eyes searched the crowd once for Riya — who had left quietly two days ago after Aditya told her about the marriage.

Meanwhile, Aditi, dressed in a royal red lehenga, walked toward the mandap, her face calm but her heart heavy. Only Karan knew the truth behind her silent eyes. He had offered to speak to her parents, but Aditi had stopped him.

“It’s just three years,” she had whispered. “Then I’ll be free.”

The Vows That Weren’t Real

They sat side by side; strangers dressed as bride and groom.
The priest recited the sacred mantras.
They repeated them — not as promises of love, but as formalities.

When the priest said, “Do you accept this marriage?”
Aditya and Aditi replied, “Yes.”
But both knew it was not the truth.

Inside their minds, their real vows were different:

“I promise not to fall in love.”
“I promise to stay away.”
“I promise this is only temporary.”

After the Wedding

As per tradition, Aditi entered the Singhania mansion for the first time as a bride. She was welcomed by Aditya’s mother, who smiled brightly, unaware of the storm inside her son.

That night, the newlyweds were sent to the luxurious master bedroom — filled with roses, candles, and expectations.

Aditya walked in, looked around, and shook his head.
“This is ridiculous,” he muttered.

Aditi placed the contract file on the bed.
“Let’s sign the final copy and keep it safe. Just in case anyone finds out.”

They signed it again. No emotions. No arguments.

Then, Aditi picked up a pillow and blanket.

“I’ll sleep on the couch,” she said.

Aditya nodded. “Good. I like the bed to myself.”

There was no anger. No bitterness.
Just two people pretending to be husband and wife — but living in completely separate worlds.

The Morning After

In front of the family, everything was perfect.

They smiled, walked together, posed for pictures, and played all the wedding games.

But the moment they stepped inside their room, silence returned.

There were no conversations.

No fights.

Just two strangers… and a contract that held them together.
