The Story I Never Meant to Write - Chapter 3

Chapter 3: Between Lines and Limits

Days passed.

The house was full of laughter, relatives, and celebration — but inside Aditya and Aditi’s shared bedroom, it was always quiet.

They barely spoke.

They followed the contract like law.

But something had started to shift.

Aditi’s New Story

Late at night, while everyone slept, Aditi sat by the window with her laptop.

The world knew her as KVS, the mysterious author whose emotional love stories touched millions.

But tonight, for the first time… she felt stuck.

She typed… then paused.

Her characters felt too real. Too close.

The girl in her new story — bold on the outside, soft on the inside — reminded her of herself.

The male character — cold, confused, angry with life — somehow resembled Aditya.

She stared at the screen.

“Is my fiction turning into truth?”
“Or is truth turning into fiction?”

She didn’t know.

Aditya’s Change of Routine

Aditya had always been sharp and focused — early riser, gym, meetings, power deals.

But now, his mornings started with the sound of quiet typing near the window.

He would often wake up and see Aditi, lost in her world of words, unaware of his gaze.

One morning, he asked casually, “What do you do all night on that laptop?”

Aditi looked up, surprised. “Just… some writing.”

“For?”

“I freelance. Finance articles and stuff.”

She didn’t lie. But she didn’t tell the full truth either.

“Hmm,” Aditya replied, uninterested — or so he pretended.

But something about the way she avoided his eyes made him curious.

The Return of Riya

Three weeks after the wedding, Aditya got a text.
"I’m back in town. Can we meet? - Riya"

He agreed.

They met at a quiet café, far from the city.

Riya looked at him — disappointment clear in her eyes.

“I waited. I thought maybe you’d stop the wedding…”

Aditya sighed. “I wanted to. But my family—”

“I know,” she interrupted. “I just… didn’t expect you to give in so easily.”

Aditya didn’t reply.

Then Riya asked, “How is she? Aditi?”

He paused. “She’s… calm. Private. We barely talk.”

“Good. Then there’s still hope.”

Aditya looked at her. “Hope for what?”

“For us,” Riya said softly. “This is just a contract, right?”

An Unexpected Meeting

That same evening, fate played its trick.

Riya came to the Singhania mansion with her cousin for a family event.

And that’s when she met Aditi — the girl she thought was just a name on a wedding invite.

Aditi, dressed in a simple pastel saree, smiled politely and greeted her.

Riya smiled back… but her eyes were scanning.

“You don’t seem like someone who married for love,” Riya said casually.

Aditi paused, surprised by the statement.

“I don’t believe in love,” she replied, softly but firmly.

And then she walked away — leaving Riya more confused than ever.

Late Night Thoughts

That night, Aditya stood at the balcony, lost in thought.

Aditi walked past him, holding a cup of tea.

She hesitated… then offered him one too.

He took it without a word.

They stood in silence — not as husband and wife, not as enemies — just two people under the same roof, under the same sky.

Aditya broke the silence.

“Why did you agree to this marriage?”

Aditi looked ahead. “Because I had no choice.”

“And now?”

She looked at him. “Now… I’m just surviving it.”

Aditya didn’t reply.

But for the first time, something inside him… softened.
