🏙️ “Long-Distance Love, Close-Distance Pain” - Chapter 3
Chapter 3: The Breaking Point
"Sometimes, closure doesn’t come from the other person. It comes the day you decide to stop opening the same locked door."
Winter had arrived.
Not just in the weather, but in Aditi's heart.
It had been nearly nine months since Aditya left.
And three since she had last heard his voice.
The promises had dried up. The affection had vanished.
What remained was a blank chat window, a few old photos, and the ache of what-ifs.
That morning, Aditi sat curled up on her bedroom floor, her laptop open beside her. She had an important strategy meeting in an hour, but her mind wasn’t in it.
Her phone buzzed. A hope sparked in her chest.
But it was just a Zomato ad.
Not him. Never him anymore.
She unlocked the phone and opened his chat again.
Still no blue ticks. Still no green dot.
And suddenly, it all just… hit her.
Not in a loud, dramatic way.
But like a soft, suffocating realization that—
He’s not coming back.
Not to the chat.
Not to the calls.
Not to her.
Aditi stared at his name one last time. Her thumb trembled as she hovered over the options.
Delete contact.
She whispered to herself, “If I wait any longer, I’ll start losing myself.”
Click.
Deleted.
Gone.
Her eyes filled with tears—but for the first time, they weren’t for him.
They were for her.
For the girl who waited.
For the girl who kept hoping.
For the girl who gave love to someone who no longer had room for it.
Later that day, at the office…
She walked into her meeting with perfect posture, flawless presentation slides, and a voice that didn’t shake.
People complimented her confidence.
They said she was glowing.
No one knew it wasn’t glow—it was armor.
That night, Rhea came over with pizza and soft music playing in the background.
“You okay?” Rhea asked gently.
Aditi nodded. “You know what hurts more than being ghosted?”
“What?”
“Realizing they didn’t even feel guilty about it.”
Rhea put her hand over Aditi’s. “You let him go?”
“I had to. I was drowning in someone else's silence.”
They sat in silence for a few moments before Aditi added, almost to herself—
“I’m done waiting. I want peace now. Even if it means living with a few unanswered questions.”
And just like that, she didn’t break down… she broke free.
